Betamethasone dipropionate
Indications/Uses
Treat inflammatory & pruritic dermatoses that respond to corticosteroids eg, atopic & contact dermatitis, neurodermatitis (lichen simplex chronicus), lichen planus, eczema (including nummular eczema, hand eczema, eczematous dermatitis), intertrigo, dyshidrosis, seborrheic dermatitis, exfoliative dermatitis, solar dermatitis, statis dermatitis, anogenital pruritus & senile pruritus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Apply sufficient quantity to cover the affected area, once daily or bid. Childn Apply sufficient quantity to cover the affected area once daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Concomitant skin infection is present. Preexisting skin atrophy.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth use. Prolonged therapy. Discontinue use in case of irritation or until infection has lessened. Occlusive dressing is not recommended. May decrease measures of urine free cortisol & function of hypothalamic pituitary-adrenal axis especially in childn. May decrease eosinophil count if cortisol plasma conc decreases. May increase glucose conc in the blood. Cushing's syndrome, intracranial HTN & growth retardation. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & growing adolescents. Premature infants. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Burning, itching, irritation, dryness, folliculitis, hypertrichosis, acneiform eruption, perioral dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, maceration, secondary infection, skin atrophy, stretch marks & miliaria.
